local love

A little while ago, I went to a party at Workshop on Hindley St, to show the designers new collections. Gorgeous night, having a glass of red and browsing through the latest collections of local designers Emma Sadie Thomson, Lachy Lang, Rachel Louise Penn, and a.b. carrig!

In celebration of Adelaide fashion amazingness, I wore Cameo, and Julie White!

I have been a huge fan of Cameo for just over a year now, and not long ago, they asked me to take part in their ‘street style’ inspired campaign. It was so much fun! And to say thank you, they gave me this incredible leather collared shirt. It is one of my favourites! They also gave me this amazing cage skirt… look out for it in upcoming outfit posts!

The leggings are an item that are so close to my heart. I recently did a shoot for Julie White Fashion, and to say thank you, she gave me this gorgeous pink parcel of seperately wrapped Julie White items, plus these custom made leggings, which she made especially for me. Attached to the label was a handwritten swingtag, reading ‘for Chloe’s lovely legs’. So gorgeous I could cry!

So if you have a moment, check out Cameo and Julie White – two Adelaide locals that I’m super proud of!

7 shoe trends that you need to love

Okay, so I ordered my biggest ever order from ASOS not long ago. I cannot believe how many incredible things they have right now – I’m lucky I don’t have more money, because I would spend it all on shoes. And my shoe cupboard already cannot be opened without them all tumbling out in a pile – I have a shoe addiction. In my most recent order, I managed to cull my basket to just one pair (the amazing River Island mules featured in my last outfit post, you can check their amazing new Australian website here: http://au.riverisland.com/ ), but these pairs were all in the wishlist. And they are all part of current trends, that you really need to get on board with.

Mules were super popular in the 90’s – think Clueless, 10 Things I Hate About You, and Jawbreaker – and they’ve made a huge comeback. Man Repeller posted about her love for open-toe mules recently – they’re big. Get on board.

Would you like a bit of extra height, but you really don’t feel like killing your feet and wearing heels everyday? You are in luck. Platform creepers, sneakers and boots are everywhere right now, and they add a bit of extra quirk to basic outfits. Super cute, and a little bit harajuku.

I used to hate snakeskin. I’ll admit it. I did. But of late, my tastes in animal print have swiveled to reptilian, and I’m really likin’ snakeskin accessories: bangles, hats, and shoes. Parseltongue is my language now. Hiss.

Let me guess: you love fashion, but majority of the time, you would prefer to be warm and comfy. YOU ARE NOT ALONE FRIEND. Luckily, wedge sneakers exist, and they are super popular. I have a pair and I wear them constantly – despite the fact they have a heel, they are the comfiest shoes ever. Also handy if you are a shortie with tall dreams.

Did you get involved in the comeback of the Chelsea boot? I did. I love them. However, even better news: Chelsea’s had a bit of a crazy revamp. Chelsea boots are still your go-to boot choice, but now, look for crazy prints, extra platforms, and details to make your look a little more excellent.

Metals and metallic trends come and go in fashion constantly, but this trend is just so simplistically beautiful, that it will never fail to look pristine. It’s here to stay. Metal details on shoes: metal toe caps, metal heels, metal detail. All top notch.

I recently bought my first pair of strappy heels, and I am in love. A lot of people say it’s a bit too ladylike and conservative – not true at all. I rock my pair with leather pants and band tees. Get on board, this shoe trend is the #1 to partake in right now, for ladies of all tastes.

So what do we all think? Love? Loathe? Need? Wouldn’t poke em with a stick? Let me know about what you are loving right now.

Huge thanks to ASOS for sponsoring SWTC to post for them! I’m so honoured – I love ASOS way too much!

you’ll always find me out to lunch

My day on Tuesday was spent having sushi dates and watching The Dark Knight Rises with my best friend, Phebe from Lightning Heart. IT WAS AMAZING. However, I’m glad we took these shots before the movie, because my mascara wasn’t looking too attractive afterwards!

I made my biggest ASOS order to date a few weeks ago, and most of this outfit is from that order! I inadvertently purchased an entire outfit without even realising – apparently I style without even thinking about it these days!

I’m so in love with these Motel jeans. I love the print so so much, and have received so many compliments already. They are quite thin too, they aren’t a really heavy material, so I’ll still be able to wear them in summer. Such an amazing purchase from ASOS. Not to mention the No Vacancy sweater – I bought it purely because it references my favourite Sex Pistols song. It’s one of those items that you can work into so many different outfits, so I know I’m going to get so much wear out of it. And how cute is the font! ASOS sunglasses too – they’re so Lady Gaga, and I love them. I get a lot of weird looks, and I can no longer count on my hands how many people have asked me if they are weird to look through. (They’re not. You get used to it.)

The clear plastic clutch is a super amazing piece from talented Adelaide lady Emma Sadie Thomson. Her label, EST, has just released it’s newest collection of incredible acrylic jewellry and bags. If you are in Adelaide, visit her at Work Shop on Hindley Street, or if not, visit her on Facebook!

Last but not least, the shoes. I love them so much it actually hurts. Also an ASOS purchase, they were only $30, from River Island! They make me feel like Cher Horowitz. They are so 90’s, so pearlescent, so pink. Mules. God I love mules. River Island have an incredible Australian website now too; you can visit them here: http://au.riverisland.com/

P.S. This was Swim with the Current’s 100th post! Happy 100th to the young’un!

see & ell

You know those moments when you are just so, so proud of where you come from? I’ve experienced that recently. Adelaide is really stepping up its’ game of late, with incredible new collections from established designers, incredible photoshoots, exciting fashion events coming up, and promising up and coming designers releasing their first collections.

I discovered the two designers of see & ell after seeing both see (celia) and ell (libby) present their seperate debut collections at the TAFE SA show at the Adelaide Fashion Festival last year. Shortly after this, I met the duo during the Fringe while I was taking social snaps for a local magazine at the Garden of Unearthly Delights. Ignoring my photographer duties for probably far too long, I talked to the talented girls for quite a while, and they told me all about their fantastic label and what they hoped to achieve. Since then, see&ell is a label I always look out for in Adelaide.

Their AW12 collection is delicate yet striking, basic yet perfectly unique. The cuts and silhouettes hint at a past era, while the bold shapes and colours keep each look in the present moment. The graphic print, a popular trend right now, are different to all others I have seen, and are superbly eye-catching. This small collection packs an absolute punch, and I’m coveting a number of the pieces. Including (but not limited to) the daylight shirt dress, the daydream pants, and the sleep tight cape – which is reversible and therefore amazing.

I’ve pictured ‘behind the scenes’ images from the AW12 shoot, because they are just too adorable. The girls used new faces for their shoot, and the photos look gorgeous!

I’m actually lucky enough to be assisting at their next lookbook shoot tomorrow, with the talented Phebe Rendulic. I’m so excited to see what the girls bring out next, and I’m so excited to be working alongside one of my best friends and favourite photographers!

For more information or to purchase any of the amazing pieces, visit seeandell.com, or visit the girls on Facebook! Stay tuned for more about see&ell after the shoot!

So my post about the namechange of iconic label YSL, was featured on Independent Fashion Bloggers weekly roundup of blog posts they love, Links A la Mode! I’m very very honoured, and here is the post that I was featured in! Inlcuding all the other links too, which are fantastic. Have a read!

August is one of my favorite months. It’s that lazy time of year where summer lingers but fall’s on the horizon; when heading back to school means amazing sales and last minute vacation getaways. Okay, confession: it’s also one of my favorites because this is the month of my birthday! And this week’s links seemed made-to-order for the occasion, like little gifts that covered all the topics I’m interested in now: the Olympics, Autumn, interviews with great artists and craftsmen, and bloggers sharing true points of view on things like the YSL mess, Instagram, and more. Sit back and enjoy — these links are even better with a slice of cake.
